Righteous: That feeling of golden victory, where the law and prejudice you and the most important person in your life have finally been overturned, that you can marry the love of your life freely under the light of the sun. That even with your heart on fire with joy, that you’ll never stop fighting to see everyone can be who they are without fear. That is righteous.
Righteous: You’re tight with fear, but your body goes through the motions, the decision you made and the years of training carrying you through. You’re going to die. The numbers of the enemy are just too great, and you’re not invincible. You can feel your mortality in the grasp of your weapon, the sound of the enemy just around the corner. You can’t win. But you can buy time.
As you turn the corner, steel in hand, you remember the words, thinking of your brothers, sisters, and the civillians they’re escorting.
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
That’s righteous.
Righteous: You’ve lost. There is no other word for it. The enemy, evil incarnate, rules unquestioned. Mankind has fallen, and accepts its defeat, is complicit with evil and there is now way you will ever be able to undo it.
It doesn’t matter. Be it out of hope, anger, stubborn determination. It is said one candle is enough to banish darkness. You’re going to be a sun.
You are righteousness, and you never give up
